Speed Awareness Program
Speeding traffic is a concern to all of us. That's why St. Albert has the speed awareness program. This program aims to make motorists aware of their speed and to reinforce that the community is concerned about speeding.
Why does this program exist?
| 1. | In many cases speeding motorists on community streets are people living in the area. |
| 2. | Ask any officer involved in traffic enforcement, and they would say that the majority of speeders caught did not realize they were speeding. Often speeding motorists are unaware they are exceeding the speed limit. |
| 3. | Education combined with enforcement and engineering is the best way to
deal with speeding problems. Showing motorists how fast they are going
encourages speeders to slow down immediately and thus increases public
safety. |
How does it work?
The City of St. Albert has a speed awareness trailer equipped with a built-in directional sensing radar unit that captures the speed of the on-coming vehicles. That speed is then displayed in large numbers via an electronic display panel. The speed trailer is placed in school zones, playground zones, construction zones and any areas where speed is a concern. The speed awareness trailer is durable, easy to move from place to place and technologically advanced. Some of the features include a built-in solar regulator and a 50-watt solar panel.Requests
We require your name, address and phone number, as well as the area where you wish the trailer to be located. The St. Albert Municipal Enforcement Service, St. Albert RCMP Traffic Services and the St. Albert Planning and Engineering Division are all involved in the program.
