Apply for a Drone Permit

All drone flights must follow the Canadian Aviation Regulations (SOR/96-433) and the regulations set by the City of St. Albert.

The City of St. Albert regulates drone use within parks and open spaces without a permit, per the Parks Bylaw (07/2022).

Parks and open spaces include:

  • City-owned areas commonly used for public recreation.
  • Natural areas, such as named parks, trail systems and environmental areas.
  • Stormwater management facilities

Important — Drones cannot operate over an advertised public event without proof of a Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC) from Transport Canada.

Provide proof of insurance for flights over City of St. Albert property with a minimum $2 million drone aviation liability insurance with the City of St. Albert listed as an “Additional Insured”.
