Path to Neighbourhood Connection

Neighbours agree that living in a connected neighbourhood is not only safer, but much more enjoyable. Did you know that after food and shelter, having strong social connections is the next most important key to our well-being?  Whether you are a long-time resident or new to the neighbourhood, its never too late to foster connections with your neighbours.

Get Started

  • Introduce yourself to your neighbours! Whether it be by knocking on your neighbours’ doors or saying hello when passing by each other, introducing yourself is a huge step towards getting to know your neighbours. Contact our FCSS office to get some “Hey Neighbour” cards that you can leave in mailboxes or slip under doors.
  • Use our free Neighbourhood Connection Kits available at St. Albert Public Library to discover St. Albert with your neighbours.
  • Participate in Good Neighbour Day! Celebrate your neighbours together on the fourth Saturday of August each year.

Do Something in Your Neighbourhood

  • Host a Block Party or Play Street! Get together and enjoy our available recreation bags, food, and street closure!
  • Build and support a Little Free Library. Unleash your artistic abilities and share literature, colouring books, movies, art, and more with your neighbours! By giving access to these to your neighbours, you are contributing to the learning and development for the greater community.
  • Check the Community Calendar to participate in events in and around your neighbourhood.
  • Encourage Crime Prevention by spreading the word about the 9PM Routine
  • Learn your neighbours’ routines and keep an eye out to make sure everyone is safe and healthy.
  • Offer to help with shovelling snow and gardening. You can also help neighbours who are unable to run errands!
  • Take care of trusted neighbours’ homes, pets, and mail while they are away.

Dive Deeper into Connection

  • Nominate helpful and engaged neighbours through the Good Neighbour Recognition Program! Promote community engagement and leadership in your neighbourhood.
  • Consider becoming a Neighbourhood Connector to become the go-to contact for neighbours and newcomers to help and plan neighbourhood events and groups.
  • Start a group, such as a book club, in your neighbourhood!
  • Access our Good Neighbour Day Resources to plan events leading up to and on Good Neighbour Day.
