Impacts to City Programs and Services
Please see the list of example situations below to better understand how poor air quality could impact City programming through modifications, cancellations or postponements.
AQHI rating: 1 to 6 (low to moderate risk)

AQHI rating: 7 to 10 (high risk)
- Impact on City programs and services:
- Environmental public education events held outdoors (if scheduled) will be cancelled/postponed.
- Outdoor activities through recreation or cultural programming may be modified to reduce intensity or moved indoors.
- Community events to encourage disposal of waste (e.g. Large Item Drop Off etc.) (if scheduled) may be cancelled/postponed.
- Outdoor on-site building inspections may be modified or reduced.
- Outdoor on-site site inspections may be modified or reduced.
AQHI rating: 10+ or greater (very high risk)
- Impact on City programs and services:
- Outdoor activities (e.g. Roaming Rec Crew) and events may be suspended for the day.
- Outdoor facilities (e.g., Grosvenor Outdoor Pool, Woodlands Water Play Park) may be closed for the day.
- Outdoor activities through recreation or cultural programming may be modified to reduce intensity or moved indoors.
- Environmental public education events held outdoors (if scheduled) will be cancelled/postponed.
- Community events to encourage disposal of waste (e.g. Large Item Drop Off etc.) (if scheduled) will be cancelled/postponed.
- Grass cutting, fertilizing, aerating, sweeping and litter collection; tree planting, maintenance and inspections; and maintenance of turf and urban forests – essential work only.
- Construction on roadways, utilities, buildings and recreational parks and facilities will temporarily stop.
- Outdoor on-site building inspections may be modified or reduced.
- Outdoor on-site site inspections may be modified or reduced.
- If air filtration systems cannot adequately filter incoming air, indoor facilities might also see impacts to their programs or, in the most extreme cases, might need to close.
If any cancellations and closures were to occur, the City would notify residents and patrons at the affected facilities, as well as through the City’s social media channels, as soon as possible.Related Pages
