Waterfowl Rescue & Reunification
At times, encountering waterfowl in unexpected places can be a concern for St. Albert residents. Whether you've spotted parent ducks or geese in distress, or need assistance with juvenile waterfowl, knowing how to respond safely and responsibly is crucial. These birds are protected by the Migratory Birds Convention Act and should ideally only be handled by trained professionals.
Here’s What You Need to Know to Help
Observation and Recording
When observing waterfowl, note their location or the direction they are moving. This information greatly aids in reunification efforts.
Try to record the specific location where the wildlife was last seen, providing a street address or detailed description.
Safety Advisory
Do NOT attempt to intervene in Utilities infrastructure such as catch basins, manholes or outfalls. These areas are confined spaces that require specialized training and equipment.
Expert Assistance
Wildlife can be unpredictable. For the safety of both residents and animals, rescue efforts or handling should be left to professionals who are authorized and trained to help.
