Partner Opportunities

Between April and October, join us as a Partner in Parks by adopting a public space for the season - the trail behind your house, your cul-de-sac island or a local park or playground.

Opportunities to beautify green spaces in our community include:

Flower Bed Partner

**These sites are pre-determined locations**

Partners adopt a flower bed on public property. Vouchers to Salisbury at Enjoy are included to beautify the area. Existing shrubs and perennials must stay. Partners may manage planting, watering (some exceptions), litter control, fall clean up and weed removal of the area.

Shrub Bed Partner

Partners adopt a shrub bed on public property. Existing shrubs and perennials must stay. Partners manage litter control, fall clean up and weed removal of the area.

Litter Partner

Partners adopt a stretch of path or green space and provide litter pick up. Bags and gloves are provided, and full bags are placed in public waste receptacles for pick up.

Flower Barrel Partner

Partners adopt a flower barrel pre-filled with potting soil and provide flowers at their own cost. Partners manage the planting, watering, and weeding for the season. At the end of the season the barrels are picked up and stored for the winter.

Mowing Partner

Partners adopt a green space to mow.

Tree Planting Partner

Approved partners plant trees at their own cost on City green spaces. Tree planting Partners sign up for at least two years and commit to watering the tree during this time. Applications, sites and species must be pre-approved prior to planting.

Alberta Weed Control Act

In accordance with the Alberta Weed Control Act the City of St. Albert must manage and remove noxious weeds found on site. Weeds can be bagged and included in regular curbside waste bins.

Resources for the identification of weeds can be found in the Alberta Invasive Plant Guide

The City can also provide support in the identification and removal of certain weed species upon request.

Prohibited Activities

The following activities are not permitted without permission from the Program Coordinator:

  1. Pruning trees and shrubs.
  2. Use of herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers.
  3. Handling needles or sharps found on site.
  4. Making modifications to parkland, for example, by extending the boundaries of a shrub bed.
