Tree Planting Processes

  • You can plant trees on City Property, except on boulevards, but it must be approved by the City of St. Albert. A site plan showing the proposed location of the planting(s) shall be provided by the resident as part of the request for approval. These plantings shall conform to the current City Landscape Standards.
  • Approval is necessary to ensure that trees planted on City property are approved species, free of disease and insects, and placed in proper locations, sufficiently apart to minimize present and future maintenance.
  • Approval is also required to ensure that the planting location is free from underground utilities, sight lines or property lines and is not in an area designated for future municipal development ie. Utility installation, road widening, etc.

Do you acknowledge all these processes before starting your request?

Do you agree after approval of these conditions to submit Utility Safety Partners (former name Alberta One Call) utility request before the site meeting?

By participating, you’ll join the Partners in Parks program for a minimum of two years. During this time, maintenance of the tree(s)—including replacement if they fail in the first two years—will be your responsibility. After planting, do you agree to become a Partner in Park for two years?

Is this part of a Community Planting Project?

What is the name of the community planting project?

When would you like to schedule your on-site and in person meeting date?
(April through October only)

The Program Coordinator will be in touch to confirm any details and to finalize your participation. By filling out this form you are not approved until you receive a letter of Permission from the Partners in Parks Coordinator to proceed.

Tree Planting Notes

  1. City Tree Inventory
Once planted, the tree(s) will be added to the City’s official tree inventory. However, after the two-year maintenance period, the City does not guarantee automatic replacement should the tree(s) fail, or the original homeowner moves away.
  2. Neighbor Notification
As part of the process, the City notifies nearby residents about the proposed planting.
  3. Planting Arrangements
You, the homeowner, are responsible for coordinating the planting. This can be done through a contractor of your choice or done yourself as a community planting project with the guidance of a Partners in Parks Liaison.
