Spill Response
The City of St. Albert is committed to protecting people, property, and the environment from the impacts of spills and releases. Prompt reporting and response help minimize risks to public safety, municipal infrastructure, waterways, and natural areas. Whether a spill occurs on public or private property, responsible parties are required to take immediate action to contain, clean up, and report the incident as required.
What Is a Spill/Release?
- Unexpected, uncontrolled or discovered spill/release of any substance, solid, liquid, or gas into the environment;
- Spills can occur anywhere by anyone; and
- If it is safe, spills should be stopped and appropriately cleaned up.
- If it is safe, do your best to keep it out of any storm drain or catch basin or any other means of the substance entering a waterbody.
How to Report
City staff are trained to respond to various types of spills to help ensure the safety of public, infrastructure and the environment.
- Call City of St. Albert at 780-459-1500;
- Email the Environment Branch at Environment@stalbert.ca; and
- Call Alberta Environment hotline at 1-800-222-6514.
When to Call 911
Call 911 if the spill is:
- An emergency; or
- Uncontrollable; or
- Hazardous; or
- You are concerned about personal or public safety.
