What Is A Spill/Release?
- Unexpected, uncontrolled or discovered spill/release of any substance, solid, liquid, or gas into the environment;
- Spills can occur anywhere by anyone; and
- Spills should be stopped and appropriately cleaned up (if possible).
If it is safe, do your best to keep it out of any storm drain or catch basin or any other means of the substance entering a waterbody.
Call 911 if the spill is:
- An emergency; or
- Uncontrollable; or
- Hazardous; or
- You are concerned about personal or public safety.

- Call Alberta Environment hotline at 1-800-222-6514.
