Make an Emergency Plan

Did you know?

St. Albert is not immune to potential disasters. Severe weather, large residential fires, flooding, or dangerous good releases can occur in our community. Knowing our risks brings us one step closer to being prepared

When an emergency occurs, family members may not be together and could be at school, home or work. Make your emergency plan with your family so that each family member knows what to do if an emergency occurs.

Emergency Preparedness Guide

Creating a family emergency plan can feel daunting. We've made it easier for you. The City has developed an Emergency Preparedness Guide to help your family prepare for emergencies and disasters. This guide includes sections on understanding the risks, how to make a plan, how to prepare a kit, knowing what to do in an emergency, and knowing what to do after an emergency.

An emergency pocket guide is also available with local emergency numbers for you to call should an emergency occur. It also has an area available for you to include the contact information of family members and out of area contacts.

Items to Include in Your Plan

  • A home escape plan
  • Emergency contact information
  • A meeting place away from your home
  • Out-of-area contact person(s)
  • Important documents
  • An inventory of household possessions
  • An evacuation route from your neighbourhood
  • A plan for your pets

Remember that cell phones and the internet may be down during an emergency.

How Often Should I Review?

Review your plan at least once a year. Do it at a holiday get-together, when you change your smoke detector batteries, or during Emergency Preparedness Week – the first full week in May. Get together with your family and update anything that has changed.
