Stop Harassment in Its Tracks

Explore ways that you can help make your community safer for everyone.

Harassment can come in many different forms, but there are three major categories harassment falls into. The first category is physical harassment. Physical harassment encompasses any type of physical contact that occurs without consent, including physical attacks such as punching and shoving, and sexual assault.

The second major form of harassment is verbal/written harassment. Verbal/written harassment includes, but is not limited to name calling, sarcasm, teasing, making derogatory comments and conveying threats.

The final major type of harassment is online harassment. Online harassment, also known as cyber bullying, involves using the internet or social media to bully, stalk, threaten or embarrass an individual. Online harassment can cause extreme emotional harm, as unlike other forms of harassment, there is often no way of escaping it. Being a bystander is especially tempting when it comes to this form of harassment because of the anonymity and lack of accountability that comes with the use of online platforms.
