2025 Award Winners
Seniors and Elders are making a difference every day in St. Albert.
The Seniors and Elders Service Award Program was formalized through council policy C-CS-24 to recognize their valuable contribution to our community, and to encourage volunteering, civic participation and service to seniors in the city.

Barb Riley
A dedicated volunteer since 2021, Barb has been a vital part of the St. Albert Further Education Association’s Newcomer Program. Her compassionate support, especially during the arrival of Ukrainian newcomers, has made a lasting impact. Currently she is leading a speaking circle at the St. Albert Seniors Activity and Resource Community Centre to help newcomer seniors to St. Albert feel welcome, connected and less alone in their new community.
Bill Clarke
A retired NAIT database instructor and dedicated volunteer, Bill transformed the St. Albert Seniors Association by solving a long-standing technical issue. For more than 18 months, he connected U.S. software developers with Canadian banks, creating a solution now used by senior centres across Canada. His persistence, innovation and generosity has had a lasting national impact on senior services.
Darrel and Susan McBain
Longtime community champions, this humble couple has spent more than 30 years quietly making a big impact. From volunteering at the International Children’s Festival of the Arts and Festival of Trees to supporting organizations like LoSeCa and wrapping gifts at St. Albert Centre, their dedication and generosity have touched many lives. Tireless and kind, they truly embody the spirit of giving.

Diane Properzi
Diane, a retired schoolteacher, began volunteering with the Sturgeon Community Hospital Adult Day Program in January 2020 and has been a reliable, uplifting presence ever since. Her warm, friendly nature supports both clients and staff. She brings a strong sense of community and helps create meaningful recreational experiences that foster connection and enhance the well-being of everyone involved.

Donne Wulf
Donne has made a lasting impact through years of dedicated volunteerism and leadership. As chair of ElderCare Edmonton and a longtime Rotarian, she has supported seniors and the broader community. From leading the Canada Flag Program to guiding nonprofits, Donne truly embodies compassion, service and community spirit.

Edith Ritz
Edith has volunteered at the Sturgeon Community Hospital Adult Day Program for 10 years, bringing a wealth of healthcare and community experience. Committed and caring, she gives six hours each week, providing steady support through years of change. Her deep knowledge of the program and gentle personality make her a valued presence who connects beautifully with clients and staff alike.
Marilyn McGreer
Marilyn has been a cornerstone of the St. Albert community, dedicating her time to supporting community, celebrating Afro-Caribbean culture and promoting diversity. For more than five years, she has volunteered at the St. Albert Seniors Activity and Resource Community Centre, the Africans & African Descendants Friendship Club and the Musée Héritage Museum. A Jamaican-Canadian with a background in human ecology and nursing, Marilyn’s leadership and contributions continue to inspire.

Marion McBride
For more than 21 years, Marion has volunteered at the Sturgeon Community Hospital Adult Day Program, giving six hours each week. Known for her humor, reliability and strong work ethic, she makes a big impact through small acts of kindness. Always willing to help wherever needed, she is a cherished team member; St. Albert is lucky to have her.
Mike Howes
Well known for his community-building efforts, Mike has made a remarkable impact through his service on the St. Albert Seniors Association Board. His leadership helped modernize business practices, improve facilities and boost community visibility. As the driving force of uniting local service clubs to collaborate on projects that benefit all of St. Albert—an inspiring example of vision and dedication.

Rachel Seal
Rachel has been a dedicated volunteer at the Sturgeon Community Hospital since April 2008, providing nearly 17 years of service. Now also volunteering with the Sturgeon Community Hospital Adult Day Program, she brings uplifting energy, warmth and enthusiasm working two full days a week. Rachel’s commitment to community wellness and her vibrant spirit makes her an essential and cherished part of the team.
