Commuter Pass Discontinuation

St. Albert Transit will be discontinuing the sale of all paper commuter passes.  October will be the last month that paper commuter passes will be available for sale.  Local paper passes will continue to be available for purchase as well as commuter & local tickets.

Starting in November, all commuter riders are asked to convert to the use of Arc cards.  Arc is the electronic fare payment system used throughout the region.  Free Arc cards are available at the following locations while supplies last:

  • St. Albert Place, City Cashier - 5 St. Anne Street (office hours 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
  • Liggett Place - 235 Carnegie Drive (office hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

This change does not represent a price increase over the paper passes.  Using the Arc Card, customers will pay $4.25 per commuter trip (equivalent to a single commuter ticket), and will cap out monthly at $119.00 for adults, $107.00 for students, or $65.00 for seniors (equivalent to existing monthly pass prices).

Why Arc?

  • Account-based. Lose your card?  No problem, your funds are backed up if you register your card.
  • Arc is easy.  Just tap on and tap off while travelling on a bus or LRT.  No more loose change or paper transfers.  With Arc, only pay for transit when and how you use it.
  • The "Pay-As-You-Go" (PAYG) option allows you to load as little as $4 or as much as $500.
  • Fare caps ensure you never pay more than the maximum you would pay for a day or month. Once you reach your fare cap, ride for the rest of the day or month for free.
  • Convenient. Add your funds online, at vending machines, over the phone or in person.

Once you obtain an Arc card, passengers are encouraged to create an Arc account on myarc.ca.

Why register?

Benefits of registering an Arc account:

  • Protect your money if your card is ever lost or stolen.
  • Auto-reload money on your account.
  • Link multiple Arc cards on one account.
  • Required for access to eligible fare discounts, such as students or seniors.
  • Adding money to your Arc account is instant. You can use your card right away.
