Young Artists Legacy Award Program
The Young Artists Legacy Award program provides financial assistance to young, aspiring artists from the St. Albert community.
The grant offers financial assistance to young aspiring artists by providing funding for:
- Education and/or professional development opportunities
- Travel assistance to showcase events and/or conferences
Application Intake Details
Annual intake deadline date for applications will be the first Thursday in April. Applications are processed annually in April and May.
Applications for 2024 are being accepted until 11:59 p.m. on April 4, 2024.

What types of projects are funded?
Emphasis will be put on the facilitation and development of young, aspiring artists from the St. Albert community through project funding assistance for:
- Training
- Education
- Career advancement opportunities
This grant is meant for short-term programs and opportunities that enhance artistic development beyond regular training.
Arts disciplines eligible for assistance include visual arts, theatre, music, musical theatre, literary, film and new media and multi-media.
What types of projects are ineligible?
Equipment purchases, equipment rental fees, studio rehearsal space fees, recording time related to fundraising activities, as well as post-secondary tuition fees.
How much money can I expect to be granted?
The maximum amount per individual is $500 and per group is $1,000.
Will I be required to provide a final report of my use of the grant?
Yes, we require both a financial and narrative report. Future awards will be contingent upon the submission of a final report
Who decides which artists receive awards?
Grant applications are reviewed by a sub-committee appointed by the City of St. Albert’s Arts Development Advisory Committee. Final funding allocations are approved by the Arts Development Advisory Committee.

Grant Overview
The Young Artists Legacy Award program provides financial assistance to young, aspiring artists from the St. Albert community.
The grant offers financial assistance to young aspiring artists by providing funding for:
- Short-term educational programs and/or professional development opportunities that enhance artistic development beyond a post-secondary experience,
- Travel assistance to showcase events and/or conferences.
The Young Artists Legacy Award Program is intended to fund one training, education or career advancement opportunity per individual or group within a calendar year. These grants are non-transferable, and any unused monies will have to be returned to the City.
The maximum amount of funding per individual is $500 and per group is $1,000.
Eligibility Requirements
- Individuals aged 13 – 21 whose permanent residence is in the St. Albert community and are wishing to pursue a career in the arts or are pursuing a career in the arts
- A youth group, with the majority of the group having permanent residence in the St. Albert community and are pursuing a career in the arts.
- Recipients of the Young Artists Legacy Award may not apply for next year’s intake of grants. Successful applicants must wait one calendar year before re-applying for funding.
- Applicants are required to submit a final report, including an expenditure report within 60 days of their project completion, verifying that the funds were used for the purpose awarded and the objectives were achieved.
Assessment and Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Opportunities for the applicants that will enhance artistic development beyond regular instruction.
- Preference will be given to new applications.
- Individuals or groups may receive one Young Artists Legacy Award per year.
