Ballot Questions

On October 16, 2017, a Municipal Election will be held in St. Albert. Electors will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidates for Mayor, Councillor, and Public School Trustee or Catholic School Trustee. Electors will also have the chance to cast their vote on three potential capital projects, all of which are on the City’s 10-Year Capital Plan.

On the ballot, electors will see three questions, one question for each capital project. For each question, electors can mark either Yes or No to indicate whether they support further planning for the capital project.

Voting Process

  • Electors can mark either Yes or No for each of the capital projects listed.
  • For example, electors can mark Yes for one, two, three or none of the capital projects listed. Similarly, they can mark No for one, two, three or none of the capital projects listed.
  • In other words, electors are not limited to supporting further planning for only one of the capital projects listed. Nor are they required to choose at least one.
  • It might seem obvious, but electors cannot mark both Yes and No for a single question; if this happens, the vote will not be counted.
  • If an individual question is left blank (neither Yes nor No is marked), it will not be counted as a Yes or a No.

Results of Ballot Questions

  • Once the voting stations close, the votes will be counted and the unofficial results of the ballot questions will be announced. The announcement is expected to take place at approximately 9 p.m. on October 16. The results will be announced on the City website at stalbert.ca.
  • The results of the ballot questions will be shared with Council. The results of the ballot questions are not binding on Council; they will be considered as one piece of information by Council in determining next steps.
