Nomination Period
The nomination period for the 2025 St. Albert Municipal Election runs from January 1, 2025, and closes at 12 noon on September 22, 2025 (Nomination Day).
Nomination Categories
You can become a candidate for one of the following:
- Mayor
- Councillor
- Public School Board Trustee
- Catholic School Board Trustee

Nomination Forms
Before submitting your nomination, please confirm your eligibility.
Mayor and Councillor: You must complete a required nomination form in order to run as a candidate in the 2025 election.
School Boards Trustee: Please visit the corresponding school board wesbsite for your nomination form.
Submitting Your Nomination
You may file your nomination forms starting January 2, 2025 up until the close of nominations on September 22, 2025 by 12 noon (Nomination Day). The nomination forms must be signed by the candidate and witnessed by a Commissioner for Oaths in Alberta. Original wet signatures are required, no photocopies, facsimiles or emailed forms will be accepted.
We encourage you to book an appointment before arriving to file. You can file your completed nomination forms by in person appointment, drop off, courier or mail.
There are two ways to file your nomination.
- By appointment: A candidate can schedule an appointment with a member of the election staff by emailing election@stalbert.ca

Note: A person who files a nomination should also submit their notice of intent at the same time. If the notice of intent is not filed the same day, the candidate cannot accept contributions or incur expenses.
Withdrawal of Nomination
As per section 32 of the LAEA, the last day to formally withdraw a nomination is 12 noon on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. After this date, your name will appear on the ballot. From there, you are responsible for informing voters of your withdrawal.
To withdraw your nomination, you must submit a written statement to the Returning Officer. Withdrawals will not be accepted if you have been declared elected by acclamation. Withdrawal notices are final. If you withdraw, then change your mind, you must submit a new nomination.

The LAEA governs elections for Alberta’s local jurisdictions, including the City of St. Albert and the St. Albert School Boards. The Election Office can provide information to candidates; however, for certain situations candidates may need to obtain legal advice.
