Candidate Disclosures

The legislation under Part 5.1 of the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) requires candidates to prepare and file with the municipality a disclosure statement in the prescribed form by March 1 following a general election unless they are specifically exempted under the self-funded campaign provisions.

If a candidate's campaign is entirely self-funded, there is no legislative requirement for candidates to submit a disclosure statement to the municipality. Self-funded candidates may submit a "Self-Funded Campaign Voluntary Statement" if they so choose.
