When I enter my information and select ‘look up’, I get a message that says “Sorry, we could not find a matching voter with the provided details.’ What should I do?

Select ‘try again’. Double-check that you are entering your name as it appears on your identification. When entering your address, start with the street address (not the unit number) and select your address from the drop-down menu. If your address includes a unit number, that will be included at the end of the address. If, after a second attempt, the system does not find a matching voter, select “register and apply” to proceed with your application.

Why am I being asked to provide identification as part of my special ballot application?

If you’re not on the permanent elector register, the City of St. Albert needs to verify your eligibility. You must provide valid identification before you can be added to the permanent electors register and receive a special ballot.

What happens to the identification I uploaded as part of my application?

Your identification is used only to complete your registration. Once your registration is complete, the file is permanently deleted. Only the City of St. Albert Election’s Team can access your information during processing.

When will I receive my special ballot package?

You can apply for a special ballot starting August 1, 2025, but packages will be sent out after ballots have been printed, starting September 29, 2025.

What happens if the Returning Officer does not receive my completed special ballot package by 7:00 pm, Monday, October 20, 2025?

If the Returning Officer does not receive your completed special ballot package by 7:00 pm, Monday, October 20, 2025, your ballot(s) will not be accepted or counted. You can drop off your special ballot package in person to the Election Office.

Ballot Count and Results

When will the 2025 Municipal Election results be announced?

Official results will be announced by noon on Friday, October 24, 2025.

How will the 2025 Municipal Election results be announced?

The results will be announced on stalbert.ca and through a City news release.

What counting methods is the City of St. Albert using?

Are these counting methods accurate?

Yes, the counting methods are accurate and have a number of checks and balances in place to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Why will the election results not be announced on the same day as it has in past elections?

Due to Provincial changes to the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA), automated voting equipment, such as electronic tabulators, are prohibited and counting of votes must be completed by a manual count. A manual count will take more time to complete, and results will be announced by the end of the week (October 24, 2025).

Why can other municipalities (some larger) have final results earlier?

  • The City of St. Albert is an “at large” municipality which means all elected officials are voted for by ALL eligible voters rather than specific voters only electing candidates in a geographic ward.
  • All voters in St. Albert vote for all candidates running for positions. For example, voters can choose five candidates for School Board Trustees and six candidates for Councillors.
  • This means that the manual count for the Councillor and school trustee races require a different counting method than the single candidate race (Mayoral race) or other municipalities with ward systems. This counting method will take longer to complete.

Why were the results for the federal election announced the same day?

The counting methods for that election is based on a ward system and requires a different counting method that is usually faster.
