Job Descriptions

Election workers are needed to help with voting and the counting of ballots. The City Election Staff will provide all election workers with the required training and direction to effectively run the election process for voters.



Presiding Deputy Returning Officer (PDRO) 

As PDRO you will have significant authority in your voting station to ensure everything runs smoothly. You will ensure the station is set up and closed as per the outlined procedures. You will supervise, direct and assist election worker staff. You will also assist voters, deal with candidates and observers, keep proper records, correspond with the Election Office and troubleshoot issues as necessary. PDROs will also be required to work a minimum of one advance voting date in addition to election day. Duties will also include supervision of the Ballot Counters and the counting process for the length of time that it takes the workers to count the ballots in their entirety.  This position may require several days of attendance and subsequent supervisory duties.

Pay: $30 per hour

Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) 

You will assist with station set up and check all supplies received from the PDRO. You will provide direction to voters, assist voters, including voters who require additional assistance or support, process voters on the City’s Permanent Electors Register, confirm voter ID requirements, complete voting register forms as required and accurately issue ballots in accordance with proper procedure. You will assist with the close of the voting station and complete closing procedures. Basic computer skills use is required. Duties may also include the counting of ballots post-election if agreed upon.

Pay: $26 per hour

Information Officer (IO)  

You will greet voters, answer voters ID questions, direct voters to available DRO stations, manage lines, assist other workers where necessary, and assist voters, including voters with disabilities who require additional assistance or support. Community knowledge is  desirable. Duties may also include break coverage for the Ballot Box Officers and assisting with the close of the voting station as directed by the PDRO as well as the counting of ballots post-election if agreed upon. 

Pay: $24 per hour

Ballot Box Officer (BBO) 

As BBO you will be responsible for directing voters on where to place their ballots, managing ballot boxes to ensure ballot boxes are secure at all times and thanking voters for voting. Duties may also include break coverage for Information Officers and assisting with the close of the voting station as directed by the PDRO as well as the counting of ballots post-election if agreed upon.

Pay: $24 per hour

Ballot Counter (BC) 

You will be responsible for all aspects of the counting process once the voting station has closed, including the possible set up of the counting station, the sort and count of ballots, recording votes for each candidate and preparing materials for the PDRO to complete the counting process. This position may require several days of attendance to complete the count. Attention to detail, patience and focus are required.

Pay: $28 per hour

Standby Worker 

A Stand-by Worker is ready to fill in if another election worker cancels at the last minute. They must be ready to go to the assigned location on short notice.

Pay: The training pay for a standby worker is the same hourly compensation as the position being trained for.
