Councillor Neil Korotash

Neil Korotash is a lifelong resident of St. Albert. He began his civic journey early, leading initiatives to establish the St. Albert Youth Community Centre and the city’s first skate park, projects that sparked his lifelong passion for community building. That experience inspired him to run for City Council at just 21 years old, making him the youngest Councillor ever elected in St. Albert’s history. During his two terms, he helped secure funding and approval for Ray Gibbon Drive and Servus Place, participated in annexation negotiations with Sturgeon County, and championed the protection of the Sturgeon River watershed—all while maintaining fiscal responsibility and keeping the city’s debt among the lowest in comparable municipalities.

Professionally, Neil is a dedicated educator with 20 years of service with Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools. Over his career, he has taught Biology, Math and Social Studies, and has created innovative new courses such as Urban Agriculture, Outdoor Pursuits, Business & Entrepreneurship, and Personal Finance & Investing.

Outside the classroom, Neil is a committed community volunteer, coach and small business owner. He has coached everything from hockey and ringette to cross-country running and basketball, and for many years helped organize the Rainmaker as a member of the St. Albert Kinsmen. He currently helps organize St. Albert's Terry Fox run and serves as President of Inside Education, Alberta’s largest environmental and natural-resource education organization. His love for the St. Albert Farmers market also has him operating a small business every Saturday there throughout the summer. In his free time Neil enjoys running, swimming, playing pickleball and co-ed soccer pickleball, gardening, and is an avid Oilers fan.

Neil and his wife Kristen live in the Mission neighbourhood with their two teenage kids Kailen and Evan.
