Join the AmpliFAM – Now Recruiting 2025 Committee Members!

Being on a team can be a formative experience for youth. In the life of a teen who’s just beginning to explore the world independently, it can help build a sense of community, accountability and commitment. Having a team at your back can make you feel confident, valued and connected.

But what if you’re not sporty? Where do you go to find that team experience? Enter Amplify—the City of St. Albert’s youth arts development program

“We like to call it the AmpliFAM,” explains Kathleen Bell, the City’s cultural coordinator dedicated to the Amplify program. “Behind the scenes, Amplify is a program organized, promoted, planned and executed by the Amplify Advisory Committee—a group of youth from Grade 7 to age 21. Every event we do is so multifaceted and requires so many helping hands, it truly requires a lot of teamwork!”

Working collaboratively, the Amplify committee programs events and activities that spotlights and elevates the work of young artists in St. Albert. Run by youth for youth, the program fosters creativity, purpose and belonging by providing both a platform for youth to showcase their talents and the opportunity for the community to appreciate that talent.

“This year we organized an exhibition and craft market, a battle of the bands, a poetry open mic night and more,” says Bell. “It was a fantastic year, and all our programming decisions are led by the Committee, so 2025 could have a completely different feel. It’s truly about what the Committee wants to do.”

Committee members have the chance to work on concrete skills like public speaking, marketing and promotion, event photography, liaising with artists and more.

Currently, Amplify is looking for new members to join the 2025 organizing committee and shape a new year of arts programming. The group meets twice a month—on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, with the introductory meeting planned for January 9, 2025.

“It’s such a welcoming group and we have a lot of fun,” says Bell. “But while we’re having fun, youth learn the power of supporting your community and lending a hand. They can put on some amazing events if they work together as a team, and that lesson is invaluable.
