Celebrating Our Paramedics
You likely see many ambulances moving through and around our community each day. These men and women are paramedics who work to protect our citizens 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They are proud to continuously deliver exceptional pre-hospital care both within St. Albert and throughout surrounding neighbouring areas. St. Albert Fire Services provides two full-time advanced life support ambulances to our community.
Thank You to all Paramedics
During Paramedic Services Week, happening May 18-24, the City of St. Albert would like to thank all paramedics for their service in responding to emergencies and providing critical care to our community when we need them the most.
Join Albertans in thanking our paramedics
Did you know your local St. Albert Fire Services paramedics are dually trained for our integrated Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services (EMS)?
This means that they work through a rotation both on the advanced life support ambulances and on the fire suppression apparatus. All members of our team are trained in all aspects of fire, rescue, medical and traumatic emergency management.

Why is there a Fire Engine and an Ambulance at my Neighbor’s House?
Our paramedic team of responders work together. Depending on the severity of the situation, up to six of our paramedics (an ambulance and fire engine) may be assigned to respond to an emergency. Our first responder teams are trained to respond together. Often, you will see our advanced life support equipped fire engines arriving on a scene first and stabilizing a patient until the ambulance arrives. All paramedic staff have experience providing pre-hospital care and are proud to be there for you when you need their help.
Help is on the Way
When faced with an emergency, you might need to ask for help. Our paramedics are ready to respond and provide care for your medical or trauma situation. Here are some things that you can do to when we arrive on scene:
- Provide the 911 dispatcher accurate information. Be prepared to answer questions clearly and provide accurate location details to facilitate a swift response. Our dispatchers are trained to take you through a series of questions to get you the help that you need quickly. Follow their lead.
- Be prepared to share important documents. Keep your health identification accessible. This could include drivers license, Alberta Health Care number, phone number, address, next of kin, personal directive documentation (green sleeve), etc.
- Keep small children and pets away from the emergency. Nearly all paramedics love animals but not every animal loves paramedics. The less distractions help us do our job.
- Trust in the care we provide. Paramedics follow a stringent set of provincially regulated medical control protocols overseen by a panel of well-trained physicians specializing in pre-hospital emergency care. We work together to provide the emergency response required and support you.
- Stay calm and reassured. Our teams are trained to provide emergency care and support you through whatever situation you are facing.
