Council Releases Strategic Plan
On March 5, 2018, City of St. Albert City Council released its Strategic Plan (2018 to 2021). This plan identifies what Council will focus on during its term of office. The Plan is based on the City’s existing Vision, Mission and Values, including the Pillars of Sustainability.
“I firmly believe that the City of St. Albert didn’t become the best place to live and raise a family by accident,” says Mayor Cathy Heron when addressing Council. “We achieved that distinction because our previous leaders embraced long-term planning and were not afraid to work together to look far into the future.”
The Plan outlines six key areas of focus and associated Strategic Priorities, presented in no particular order of importance:
- Strategic Priority #1
Growth Policy Framework: Develop a robust policy framework to guide growth
- Strategic Priority #2
Economic Development: Enhance business/commercial growth
- Strategic Priority #3
Building a Transportation Network: Integrated transportation systems
- Strategic Priority #4
Infrastructure Investment: Identify and build needed capital assets
- Strategic Priority #5
Housing: Enhance housing options
- Strategic Priority #6
Environmental Stewardship: Explore innovative environmental and conservation opportunities
“This plan is about balancing the vision developed by our community, the strategy created by this Council and the resources we have, to achieve success. This is the first step in the next great phase of St. Albert. Please join us in this exciting journey,” Mayor Heron concludes.
The City of St. Albert’s Senior Leadership Team has also developed a Corporate Business Plan (2018 to 2021), which outlines how Administration plans to operationalize the Council Strategic Plan and support the Council Priorities.
The Corporate Business Plan identifies the specific initiatives developed by Administration to implement the Council Strategic Plan and addresses organizational priorities to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated Administrative plan that complements the City’s core program and service delivery.
