So, What’s This Dig In Dining Week Thing, Anyway?
Gastronomy: “The art or science of good eating” (Merriam-Webster, 2021).
On Friday, the City of St. Albert’s gastro scene will come alive once again as 19 restaurants around town join forces to present diners with an array of unique, palatable meals specially curated for the event. While many have had the opportunity to participate in Dig In Dining Week before, others may be wondering what all the fuss is about. Well, hold on to your tapas plates, folks, because you’re about to find out!
What is Dining Week?
What some may recognize now as Dining Week started as “Restaurant Week” decades ago in New York City to draw in visitors, press and residents to attend and support local restaurants in a unique and accessible way. All over the world, Dining Weeks not only support a food tourism strategy for municipalities, but they also bring awareness and accessibility of local offerings to the community. They are events that bring the community together through food and celebrate, recognize and support local restaurants.
In St. Albert, Dig In Dining Week is a great way for both locals and visitors to experience the diverse culinary scene offered right in their own backyard.
Restaurants participating in Dig in Dining Week get a chance to welcome new faces and as part of their partnership with the City, receive free print and digital advertising leading up to and during the event. The benefits to both the restaurants and the community have led businesses to join in the event year after year, with over half of this year’s participants having been involved at least once before.
How Does St. Albert’s Dining Week Work?
During the 10-day event (November 5- 14), 19 participating local restaurants will offer a feature menu selected exclusively for Dig In Dining Week. The special prix fixe menu consists of two- or three-course meals at a variety of affordable price points for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. Diners can explore the menus online and pick what they want to try first (and second, and third) from a variety of local flavors. There are also many options for take-out if dining in is not your thing these days.
For anyone visiting St. Albert during Dig In Dining Week (or for locals looking for a relaxing and fun-filled staycation), a local hotel has teamed up with the event to offer an exclusive Dig In Dining Week rate to guests.
When patrons Dig In, they can also enter the Dig In Contest by taking a snapshot of their feature Dig In Dining Week meal and posting it on their favourite social media platform using #DiginStAlbert. Each day of the contest, a winner will be selected from eligible entries to win a $50 gift card to their favorite participating local restaurant.

We ask that visitors please respect any additional measures in place at each establishment and follow all provincial public health measures in place at the time of their visit.
