NEW Fire Hall No. 1 Facility

After years of preparation and planning, a grand opening ceremony and celebration was held on June 8, 2022, marking the ceremonial opening of Fire Hall No. 1 – a $14 million project.

The new location on 20 Gate Avenue replaced the aging structure at 18 Sir Winston Churchill Avenue that was built in 1962. It provides Fire Services with a newer facility designed for St. Albert’s current and future needs, delivering improved response coverage to the south and southeastern parts of the City.

Fire Hall No. 1 features a two-story fire hall which includes four double-deep bays for fire apparatus and ambulances, accommodations for firefighters and paramedics, a new Emergency Operations Center, and the City’s Fire Prevention and Emergency Management departments.

“We are extremely grateful to the Province for over $11 million in grant funding from the Municipal Sustainability Initiative Program,” says Mayor Cathy Heron. “We appreciate the ongoing collaboration with the Province. This new facility also includes a state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Centre, thanks to the Federal Government’s contribution of over $778,000 via the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.”

These partnerships will continue to be critical in maintaining and expanding needed public infrastructure. These kinds of investments help to maintain the quality of life our residents enjoy, and to provide the lifestyle necessary to attract and retain a talented workforce, which is integral to growing our regional, provincial, and national economy.

As St. Albert grows, so do our infrastructure needs. This new building supports the dedicated team with St. Albert Fire Services in continuing to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
