Councillor Sheena Hughes: Deputy Mayor November – December 2020
Sheena grew up in St. Albert and attended the first French immersion class in St. Albert. She graduated from St. Albert High. Ironically, former Councillor Len Bracko was serving on City Council at the same time that he was her Social Studies 20 teacher.
Sheena graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Honours Psychology. She worked for several years in Research and Information Development for the Alberta Government. In another twist of fate, her department director was also a long-serving city councillor in a nearby municipality. She left the Provincial Government with the birth of her first child and began her first business.
For over a decade, Sheena has been keenly interested in civic politics and in effective representation of average residents over special interest groups. In 2013, she successfully ran for City Council with an intention to represent residents with a fiscally responsible and common-sense lens. This is Sheena’s second term and her 8th year on City Council.
Away from City Council, Sheena has published seven non-fiction books and has created a natural and chemical-free skin care formula line. She is an avid reader of 3-5 books a week and enjoys baking, camping, and traveling. She lives in Akinsdale with her husband of 24 years, Randy, their three children and three devoted Lhasa Apsos.
