Out with the Old, In with the New
Over the past year, the City of St. Albert has been working diligently to upgrade water meters in every home and business across the city. Like any technology, our old water meters had a shelf life and needed to be replaced. Without any cost to the homeowner, the new water meters make it easier and more efficient to obtain water readings. They also provide leak alerts, which are helping home and business owners track down any pesky leaks that are causing a rise in their bills each month.
Drip Drop, Drip Drop
There are many reasons why water bills fluctuate throughout the year. For example, summer months often bring higher bills, as water use typically increases by approximately 10-15%. On top of this, some customers can double their consumption by using sprinkler systems, hot tubs, and swimming pools.
At anytime, a leak within your home can increase your water bill significantly over a very short period of time. The new water meters in St. Albert can help identify addresses that show a spike in water usage that seem unusual compared to past billing periods.
What types of leaks are common?
The most common type of leaks that happen are running toilets, dripping taps, humidifiers, hot water heaters or tub and shower leaks.
