Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day
Blue and red lights flash as help approaches, answering the call day or night.
St. Albert RCMP and Municipal Enforcement Services work together, enforcing laws and ensuring all residents have a safe community to call their own.
“The St. Albert RCMP and Municipal Enforcement team are part of this community, working everyday behind the scenes to ensure anyone who comes to St. Albert can feel safe and that help will be there when needed,” says Aaron Geisbrecht, Director of Policing Services. “We have unfortunately experienced loss in St. Albert and there is nothing that takes that pain away when you lose a colleague.”
September 27, 2026 – Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day
Each year, on the last Sunday in September, Canada recognizes Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day. It is an opportunity for the country to honour police and peace officers who have fallen in the line of duty, and also recognizes families, friends and colleagues who have suffered the devastating loss of a loved one.
Flags will be flown at half-mast at City buildings and properties on September 27, honouring all Canadian police and peace officers who have lost their lives serving their communities. Additionally, from sunset on September 27 until sunrise the next day, St. Albert Place will be lit in several shades of blue.
The next time you hear the sirens of a police car, or see a municipal enforcement officer in your neighbourhood, take a moment to give thanks and remember those who are no longer with us.
