Slips, trips and falls

Be prepared this winter season!

Winter is among us and with the cold weather comes slippery conditions. Whether you are driving, taking a walk through the trails, or planning a family skate night, it is important to be cautious and aware of the conditions.

The City of St. Albert has a few reminders to help prevent slips, trips and falls this winter season:

Check the road conditions before you pull out of the driveway. The roads are slippery, especially after a fresh snow fall or a change in temperature. Drive with caution and be aware.

The most frequent place to slip is your own front door. With the temperatures dropping and ice forming, sidewalks and driveways are slippery. Residents are encouraged to sand or salt these surfaces. The City has sand boxes located in the communities. Residents can access the sand and use as required, for free. For more information and to find a box near you, visit the Sand Box Locations page.

When you are walking the trails, be aware of ice hiding under the snow. Be sure to have good winter boots with grip and walk with caution.

A great winter activity and a family favorite is ice skating. St. Albert is home of many outdoor rinks for your family to enjoy. However, we ask everyone to stay off storm water facilities and ponds. They are not safe for walking, skating or any other recreational activity. Visit outdoor rinks & ice surfaces page for a list of outdoor rink locations, hours and condition information.
