An Interview with Pahua
- Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m 36 years old, proudly Mexican and I have been a musician for 21 years now. I started in Regional Music from my country called Mariachi, and that was also a very profound way to start singing. Then I started taking percussion lessons and Marimba. I was also involved with a lot of folk projects and along with my brother on another cumbia electronic project long ago. Three years ago, I started Pahua, and this is my solo project that I really love and care for. I love dogs – and of course my dog Leeloo, is the best – I love parks, nature, writing, cooking, producing and being with my family too. - How would you describe your style of music?
Like Folktronic and Afro influenced by a lot of polyrhythmic drums from around the world. - What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
I guess playing in Montreux Jazz Festival is my most special gig and vibe I have ever felt in my career and maybe Ceremonia with Sotomayor. They were great festivals and particularly shocking! - Have you ever played The Arden Theatre before? If so, what was your experience, and do you have any memories to share? If not, what excites you about performing in St. Albert this summer?
Everything excites me. I have never been in St. Albert, but I am excited because each audience has their own energy and way to connect. So, I guess that for me is what really gets me into the best vibe. - What can the audience expect from your Arden Plaza Series show this summer?
They are gonna dance so much that the next day they are not gonna feel their feet! Jajaja, really – I love to dance and get crazy.
