St. Albert Celebrates Sports Day
Sports play a very important role in our community by encouraging people to live and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. They are also a significant part of recreation in St. Albert and help build a strong sense of community.
On Saturday, November 4, twenty-five sport and recreation groups set up booths and activities for over 900 residents at the St. Albert Celebrates Sports Day event hosted by the City of St. Albert. All attendees had the opportunity to engage in physical activity and get interactive with sports at the “try it” events. The “try it” events included baseball, basketball, fastball, gymnastics, lacrosse, ringette, rugby, pickleball, BMX and curling. Through this event, participants met with local sports organizations and learned about volunteer and coaching opportunities.
In its third year running, Sports Day encouraged those who attended to donate new or gently used equipment at the Sport Central donation drop-off boxes to help kids in need. Each year the donations have been growing, and this year donations included: a bike, hockey equipment and hockey sticks. Sport Central then gathered, recycled and redistributed the equipment to those in need in Northern Alberta, including St. Albert.
