Youth in Action!
Local youth have been busy creating and leading projects and programs for other youth and young adults in St. Albert. Youth in Action (YIA) is a year-round by-youth-for-youth development program that fosters growth, learning and personal development.
YIA empowers youth to take an active role in their community. It is a great program to make friends, gain leadership experience, facilitate programs, receive volunteer hours, acquire new skills and stand out on scholarship applications.

This group addresses critical topics and issues, identifies key topics, and makes services and programs available for youth. Anyone between the ages of 15 and 24 are invited to join the YIA Committee, whether they are looking to volunteer, connect with other youth or just want to share your ideas.
Ksenia Wiker joined YIA this year after hearing about the program from a close friend. “One of my favorite parts about being in Youth in Action is the environment we create with one another,” Wiker said. “Everyone comes up with great ideas for future events and our peers are able to give opinions on a subject we discuss without the fear of judgement. It is a safe space for creativity and fun all together.”
Ksenia has learned about mental health awareness and how to help people who are struggling with mental health issues in YIA. She consistently connects with new people and learns their perspectives on mental health. Wiker believes “youth in St. Albert should join this group because it’s a great opportunity to learn about new things, meet new people, and be apart of something good!”
Bryn Macdonald joined YIA after seeing a volunteer sign-up sheet at Servus Place and has since planned community events and workshops, made friends, and supported community initiatives. “My favourite part of this committee is how nice everyone is,” said Macdonald.
