RCMP - Arrests Suspect in Serious Assault - UPDATED

St. Albert RCMP has obtained Crown Approval for charges for the May 1, 2026, assault.

Ryan Richard Lacasse (40), a resident of St. Albert, has been charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Uttering threats 

He was also charged with two Traffic Safety Act offences.

Lacasse is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert on June 8, 2026. As this matter is before the courts, no further information will be released.
 


 

Original Release - May 6, 2026

On May 1, 2026, at 2:36 p.m., St. Albert RCMP received multiple calls from the public regarding an assault in progress at Poirier Avenue and Parkwood Drive. RCMP responded immediately and obtained details from witnesses on the description of the suspect and his vehicle. St. Albert RCMP quickly located the vehicle and the suspect, and a 40-year-old male resident of St. Albert was arrested.

This male has been released on an undertaking with conditions to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert on June 8, 2026. Charges are pending; a pre-charge assessment package has been provided to an Alberta Justice Crown Prosecutor for decision on the specific charges to be laid. There is an indication that racial slurs were uttered during the assault, and those details are being fully considered in this investigation. An update will be provided upon completion of the pre-charge process.

The victim sustained injuries and was treated in the hospital.

Inspector Aaron White, Officer in Charge of the St. Albert RCMP, states: “Your local RCMP is taking this incident extremely seriously, and we are investigating fully, including the indication of racial slurs being uttered. Racism of any kind has no place in our community. Incidents like this are deeply troubling, yet we know that St. Albert is a safe and welcoming city, filled with empathetic, compassionate people.
