RCMP Conduct Combined Operation for Electric Dirtbikes and Loud/Fast Vehicles

During the evening of Friday September 11, 2026 members of the St. Albert RCMP conducted an Operation to address the two most prominent traffic complaints in the City of St. Albert. Over an 8 hour period a team of 8 officers dedicated their efforts to interdicting the riders of electric dirtbikes within the city limits along with intercepting any vehicles observed to be being driven in a loud or risky manner.

Officers utilized a combination of marked and unmarked patrol cars, plainclothes and covert assets as well as officers on e-bikes to identify and make contact with offenders. The project was a success in a number of ways :

• Approximately 20 youths spoken to about not wearing helmets while operating their scooters, bicycles or e-bikes.  Parents were contacted and advised of potential fines and consequences.
• 17 Reward based positive tickets were issued for youths observed to be following the rules and/or wearing required safety gear.
• 41 Violations were issued ranging from speeding, off-highway vehicles (electric dirtbikes) and unnecessary vehicle noise violations.
• Education leaflets (riding around St Albert - found on City of St Albert website) regarding micromobility laws were given to each violator.
• Officers on e-bikes came across and interrupted two youth (who cannot be named) spray-painting graffiti behind a school in the City’s north end.
• Enhanced focus in high-frequency problematic areas such as the commercial parking lots and roadways in the City’s Northwest quarter.

Cpl Curtis HARSULLA of the St Albert RCMP Traffic Services Unit says, “ Your St. Albert RCMP will continue to listen and respond accordingly to your complaints in the City of St. Albert. This is one of many projects that we have conducted, and will continue to conduct throughout the seasons until we see the required results. From golf carts to helicopters, nothing is off the table in catching violators. We will continue our efforts to deliver engagement, education and enforcement to ensure all trails, pathways and roadways in the City are safe for all to use.”

This project follows a robust ongoing traditional and social media campaign since early spring where RCMP are educating St. Albertans regarding the risks and regulations surrounding these e-scooters, e-dirtbikes, bicycles, etc.
