2024 Municipal Census Results Are In

The City of St. Albert is pleased to release the 2024 Municipal Census Report in two formats, Executive Summary and In-Depth Analysis. The city’s population has grown to 72,316 with the official census reporting an increase of 6,234 people since the last municipal census in 2018. This represents an average annual growth rate of 1.51 per cent. 

“We thank St. Albert residents for participating in the 2024 Municipal Census,” says Mayor Cathy Heron, City of St. Albert. “The census data provides Council and Administration with vital information that is used to inform our decision-making and paths forward for key services that support our growing, diverse community.” 

Since the 2018 Municipal Census, 3,082 new dwellings have been built in St. Albert and the city now has 29,421 dwellings. Single-detached houses dominate the housing market comprising 67.64 per cent of total dwellings. 

In 2024, Lacombe Park leads the way as the most populous neighborhood with 10.9 per cent of the total population with Grandin and Deer Ridge neighbourhoods close behind. 

An increase in the diversity of residents from outside Canada has risen from 6.62 per cent in 2018 to 10.67 per cent in 2024. Other language speakers (languages other than English and French) also show higher linguistic diversity.  

Respondents reported St. Albert as the second most common employment location with 28.6 per cent of respondents reporting it as their work location. This is an increase of 5.0 per cent since 2018. 

The census took place from May 6 to June 27, 2024, with St. Albert residents completing the census online and in-person.
