2024 Municipal Census
The City of St. Albert kicks off the 2024 Municipal Census that runs May 6 to June 27.
“I encourage all St. Albert residents to count themselves in and complete their 2024 census,” says Mayor Cathy Heron. “Your responses help shape the future of St. Albert by ensuring we have an accurate population count to plan projects, programs and services as well as receive grants for our growing community.”
Residents have two ways to complete the 2024 census: online or in-person with an enumerator who will visit their home. The easiest way to complete the census is online between May 6 and June 18. Each household needs to use the Secure Access Code they received in the mail during the first week of May to access the online census. If residents complete the Census online before May 27, no enumerator will come to their door. Door-to-door enumeration will take place from May 27 to June 27 where enumerators will visit homes that have not completed the census online.
The last municipal census took place in 2018. In 2023, Council amended the Census Policy and changed the frequency of conducting a census from every two years to every five years with timing to occur between the federal censuses. Every response counts as the City relies on current census data for planning new community programs and services or enhancing existing ones including transportation, schools, utilities, emergency services and recreational facilities. Provincial and federal grants are also based on population count, which means the more people the City identifies through the census, the more dollars the City can receive in grants from other orders of government.
If a person does not have a fixed address, but lives in St. Albert, they are encouraged to take part by completing their census at the St. Albert Community Village and Food Bank, (#30-50 Bellerose Drive) or at the St. Albert Public Library (5 St. Anne Street).
