City Signs Ground Ambulance Contract Extension
On September 3, 2026, the City of St. Albert signed a 2.5-year ground ambulance contract extension with the Government of Alberta’s Emergency Health Services (EHS). The extension will be in effect from now until 2029.
This contract extension renews the original contract set to expire on September 30, 2026, and will maintain funding levels at current rates from 2026-2029.
Signing this contract extension ensures that the City’s ground ambulance service remains the same until 2029. The St. Albert community will continue to receive care through ambulances provided by St. Albert Fire Services and other ambulance providers, and there will not be a 1.2 per cent municipal property tax impact in 2027 as was announced on May 19, 2026, due to this change in Provincial direction.
Currently, the City is participating in a third-party review of its emergency medical services being conducted by Ernst & Young (EY) on behalf of EHS and is looking to undergo discussions with EHS regarding the contract that would be in effect from 2029 onwards.
