Barrier Wall Incident on St. Albert Trail

On Tuesday, August 27, 2019, while installing pile foundations for the new Barrier Wall along St. Albert Trail, the City’s vendor, Wilco, experienced an issue that involved a gas line.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. Within 30 minutes of the event, the City Project Manager and Health and Safety staff were on-site. There are no injuries to report.

Atco Gas is currently on-site, along with Fire Services. The leak has been contained and all equipment has been shut down.

Repairs to the gas line will take 3 – 6 hours on-site. Due to this emergent work, St. Albert Trail northbound from Hebert Road to Sterling Street is reduced to one lane. Lanes will be reduced until this evening.

The gas valves in the area have been shut off. It is estimated that over 750 residents will be impacted by this. ATCO is currently informing residents in the area.

ATCO estimates service will be restored by 10 p.m. ATCO will also door knock when to the affected residents once service is back to relight natural gas appliances. If you find a card in the mailbox, you can call ATCO for help with relights at 1-800-511-3447.
