St. Albert’s Big Game on the Big Screen Events a Success

Following a Council Motion, the City of St. Albert organized six Big Game on the Big Screen hockey playoff viewing events in June 2025. The City has reviewed the results and deemed the events to have been a success.

The events took place in the southwest corner of the Servus Credit Union Place parking lot and featured a high-definition screen, food trucks, interactive booths, giveaways and a family friendly atmosphere. On-site security, first aid services and portable washroom facilities also contributed to the positive environment the City provided for the viewing parties.

Participation at the events was impacted by the weather as events ran regardless of rain or shine. Attendance ranged from a few hundred during events with rainy and windy weather to a high of approximately 1,200 when the event experienced more favourable weather.

Editor's Note: added Aug 26 after release sent out: The total budget for the events was set at $70,000. The total cost to host the six games was approximately $48,000. These costs were partially offset by $19,000 in sponsor contributions and food truck revenue, bringing the net cost of hosting the six events to $29,000.

While the 2025 events were put together very quickly, feedback from participants was positive and appreciative. City staff are exploring options and potential approaches for future Big Game on the Big Screen events should the local professional hockey team have another successful playoff run in the future.
