The City of St. Albert has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), for its Annual Budget for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 2025. 

To receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well the City’s budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.  

“We are honoured to receive this prestigious award for our municipal budget for the twentieth consecutive year,” says Mayor Cathy Heron. “This award shines a light on the quality of our budget as it is measured amongst our peers in North America. It showcases our City’s commitment to ensuring transparent and quality budgeting practices in creating our budget year-over-year.”

The City’s Financial Plan and 2025 Budget were approved at the December 17, 2024, Council Meeting, following the City’s budget deliberation process. 

The City’s 2025 Budget focuses on maintaining the high standards of services provided to our residents, businesses and community stakeholders. As a fiscally responsible municipality, the City continually focuses on operational improvements, effectively managing resources and corporate risks while balancing increased costs and investments required for a sustainable future. We are proud to see St. Albert grow as a home for 72,316 residents and look forward to maintaining and creating opportunities for future growth, community well-being and economic prosperity.
