Caution Required Due to Heavy Rains

The City of St. Albert appreciates everyone’s efforts to reduce pressure on the City’s sanitary sewer system over the past few days. While the rain has slowed today, the heavy rains of the past few weeks have led to sewer backups and localized flooding, including near City trails. The rain has also destabilized riverbanks and the edges of storm water ponds. Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution.

Please note the following:
•    If you think your sewer is backing up, follow the steps outlined on the City website here: https://stalbert.ca/home/utilities/wastewater/sewer-issues/
•    Some trail sections, especially those near stormwater management facilities, may be underwater. Do not wade through the water, detour around when possible. Water will recede over the next few days.
•    The City is monitoring the river and it is close to, but not over, the lowest pathway (Perron Street bridge).
•    Trails, sidewalks and roadways are wet and slippery. Please exercise caution when walking, biking and driving.
•    Dodger Dog Park is a dry stormwater management facility and is part of the City’s utility infrastructure that helps manage large rain events.  As such, the area is flooded and residents are encouraged to use Lacombe Lake Dog Park or local dog off leash areas and outdoor rinks until the water recedes.
•    Monitor the City’s website and social media channels for updates.
