City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County Begin Annexation Process

On June 15, 2017, on behalf of St. Albert City Council, Mayor Nolan Crouse submitted an Intent to Annex to the Municipal Government Board, which begins the formal annexation process to adjust the boundary between the City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County.

“Through collaborative planning and discussion, the City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County are determining the best way to plan for our respective futures,” says Mayor Nolan Crouse. “This approach will help us find a way forward that is beneficial to both municipalities and our residents.”

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed by Mayor Tom Flynn of Sturgeon County and Mayor Nolan Crouse of the City of St. Albert on February 28, 2017, to establish a joint committee with representation from both Councils to negotiate the details of the annexation.  Members of the Negotiating Committee will be appointed after the municipal elections in October 2017.

“We all look forward to continuing this strong working relationship between our two municipalities as we prepare to engage our stakeholders and community partners in the next stage of the process,” says Mayor Crouse.
