The City’s Business Retention and Expansion survey provides the City’s Economic Development department with the opportunity to consult with the local business community, understand their top priorities, plans and needs, monitor trends and identify programs and services that will help St. Albert businesses thrive.

The annual survey, which was conducted from April 24 to May 19, 2023 by Deloitte, focused on areas that businesses are satisfied with, areas of improvement, the community business health index, business performance, future opportunities and future plans for local businesses.

Longer term, the City will be looking at supporting or developing programs that will target current business challenges. In recent years, results from the survey have led to several key business retention and expansion initiatives, such as the Digital Economy Program, launched in partnership with the University of Alberta and Business Link, as well as the series of St. Albert Job Fairs, implemented in partnership with the Government of Alberta, the St. Albert Chamber of Commerce, NABI and St. Albert Further Education.

This year’s telephone and online survey included 340 local businesses. The survey has a +5.3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.
