Council Approves 2026-27 Advocacy Priorities

At the September 1, 2026 City Council Meeting, St. Albert City Council approved their 2026-27 Advocacy Priorities.

Council’s Advocacy Priorities are initiatives that are impacted by or rely on decisions of other orders of government. For example, funding from the provincial and federal governments helps the City pay for road construction. Council reviews these priorities annually to ensure they reflect the most up-to-date needs of St. Albert.

"Mutually beneficial partnerships with the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada are what enables us to grow sustainability and ensure that St. Albert remains one of the best communities for generations to come," says Mayor Scott Olivieri.

Eight total Advocacy Priorities have been approved, including the following three that Council has identified as their top Advocacy Priorities:

Municipal Financial Sustainability

  • St. Albert and other Alberta municipalities have adequate, stable, predictable sources of funding from other levels of Government. This includes exploring alternative revenue sharing, financing mechanisms, and associated policies and initiatives.

Transportation and Infrastructure Funding Priorities

  • Funding is provided to support strategic transportation investments within St. Albert that stimulate enhanced connectivity and community growth locally, and across the region and Province.

North-East Servicing

  • All orders of government work together to ensure the North-East Servicing Project becomes a reality to boost housing supply, housing choice, and meet growing demand in the City.

Although all of Council’s Advocacy Priorities will be worked on, Council’s top Advocacy Priorities will be more foundational in messaging and will be prioritized in the City’s engagements with other orders of government.
