Council Attends 2026 Alberta Municipalities Convention

Members of St. Albert City Council attended the 2026 Alberta Municipalities Convention from September 23 to 25 in Edmonton. This annual event is a gathering of municipal and provincial elected officials from across Alberta, where municipal issues of provincial significance are discussed and actioned. 

This year, St. Albert City Council put forward two resolutions that were both approved by Alberta’s cities, towns and villages at the Convention, meaning that Alberta Municipalities will engage with the Government of Alberta on these issues.  

Mayor Scott Olivieri states, “City Council appreciates Alberta Municipalities’ support on Council’s resolutions this year, and this event provided an excellent platform to engage with other communities and the Provincial Government on matters of shared interest and opportunity.” 

The first resolution sponsored by City Council, Door to Door Solar Sales, requests that the Government of Alberta to engage with industry and municipalities to enhance regulatory oversight for door-to-door sales of solar PV systems, in alignment with the protections already in place for other home energy products. If actioned, this will ensure public confidence in the industry, enhance consumer protections, and limit misinformation about municipalities that have Clean Energy Improvement (CEIP) Bylaws. 

The second resolution, Equitable Provincial Charitable Gaming Model, asks the Province to review and implement changes to the Charitable Gaming Model, which supports eligible charities across Alberta. The model was implemented in 2003 and has remained relatively unchanged since that time, despite the emergence of online gaming as a new revenue source that could enhance the sustainability of these critical organizations across Alberta’s cities, towns and villages.

I call on the Government of Alberta to consider implementing the changes requested, to the benefit of Albertans and St. Albertans alike,” says Mayor Scott Olivieri.
