Council Holds Strategic Planning Session

On January 30 and 31, St. Albert City Council held a strategic planning session to review progress on the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. The Plan describes Council’s areas of focus during their term and provides specific direction for Administration. Administration uses this information to plan and prioritize initiatives in the Corporate Business Plan and to inform the proposed budget.

“As Council has now had a full year in office, this planning session serves as an important checkpoint,” says Mayor Cathy Heron. “Council is able to reflect on the work to date and assess whether we are on the right path in ensuring we continue to build a sustainable future as our city continues to grow.”

Council discussed the five priority areas of the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan: economic prosperity, vibrant downtown, community well-being, adapting to a changing natural environment, and financial sustainability as well as strategies within these priority areas, which serve as Council’s direction for Administration. These conversations ensure that the City is working on the right initiatives to advance Council-identified strategies and supports mutual understanding between Council and Administration of the intended direction.

The development of the Plan was informed by the Community Vision and Pillars of Sustainability, Municipal Development Plan, and Long-Range Strategies as well as input received from the community through formal and informal opportunities. Council’s Strategic Plan is reviewed on an annual basis.

More on the 2022-2025 Council Strategic Plan and St. Albert Corporate Business Plan can be found on the City's website. Any updates resulting from the planning session will be included in these documents on the website in the coming months and shared publicly in an upcoming Council meeting.
