COVID-19 Recovery Task Force Meeting Update

Meeting held on August 5, 2020 

Members of the COVID-19 Recovery Task Force met on August 5, 2020 to discuss how the committee will support St. Albert’s economic and social resiliency from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Committee received a presentation to better understand the City’s existing social services efforts including current initiatives and the key stakeholders for the sector. An in-depth discussion on the gap analysis and various research completed by the Committee was held, which will provide greater context and information to frame recommendations for Business Sector support. The Task Force recommended to Council that the City advocate for local COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites (when available) and that the City develop a vaccination implementation plan. The Task Force also expressed their full support for Council’s decision to implement a Face Coverings Bylaw in all indoor public places.

“As we build a future in which our residents and businesses thrive, it’s vital that community connection and sustainability are top of mind,” says Councillor Ken MacKay, who chaired the meeting. “We continue to explore innovative ways to ensure our economic and social resiliency.”

The Recovery Task Force is a 10-member committee, which includes a cross-section of business and community leaders, who will make recommendations to Council.

The next meeting of the Recovery Task Force is scheduled to take place on August 19, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
