COVID-19 Recovery Task Force Meeting Update

Meeting held on February 26, 2021

Members of the COVID-19 Recovery Task Force met virtually on February 26, 2021 to discuss how the committee will support St. Albert’s economic and social recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting reviewed the Task Force’s progress in 2020, including the development of their Interim Report with its desired outcomes, recommendations for 2021 and other future considerations and priorities for post-pandemic recovery. Progress updates were provided, and a visioning workshop was held to focus on strategic planning and the development of a 2021 workplan. The Task Force also discussed their upcoming stakeholder engagement in March to better understand the various experiences felt during the pandemic, and to receive feedback on the Interim Report. The Task Force will be meeting with the City of St. Albert Board and Committee Chairs, the Board of the St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce, and St. Albert non-profit Board Chairs. Broader public engagement on the Interim Report will be held this spring, with a Final Report to be delivered to Council by end of summer.

“The pandemic has touched every person and business within our community; however, all have experienced various nuances of impacts and affects,” says Mayor Cathy Heron. “By better understanding what our community has seen and felt, individually and collectively, we can hone in on the priorities that will create the most meaningful impact within our community both socially and economically.”

The Recovery Task Force also reconfirmed its commitment to have St. Albert as a vaccination site. In August 2020, St. Albert City Council, on the advice of the COVID-19 Recovery Task Force, advocated for the establishment of a COVID-19 testing and vaccination location within the community. With the continued roll-out of the Province’s vaccination program, the Task Force stands with Council on calling on the Province to establish one or more vaccination locations in St. Albert.

The Recovery Task Force is a 10-member committee, which includes a cross-section of business and community leaders, who will make recommendations to Council.
