Fibre Optic Installation Resumes in St. Albert
Starting in 2024 and continuing into 2025, Fibre Connect will be installing a fibre optic network to many of those areas of St. Albert that did not have fibre optic installation as part of previous initiatives.
Fibre Connect will own the new fibre optic network and will lease space on the network to telecommunications firms, which will offer various services to residents and businesses who wish to access them.
The City has entered into a Municipal Access Agreement (MAA) with Fibre Connect for this project and has provided permission to Fibre Connect to install the fibre optic network within the City’s Rights of Way as per the MAA.
Individual residents and businesses will decide if they would like Fibre Connect to install the fibre optic connection from the property line to their home or business. Once installation is complete, homeowners and businesses, if they wish, will have the opportunity to purchase fibre optic services from telecommunications firms leasing space on the network.
This installation work will be completed by the installer and there is no requirement for residents to contact the City. The installer will complete restorations on private property as part of the installation. Any restoration work on private property involves an agreement between the homeowner/business owner and Fibre Connect. The City is not involved in any disputes about deficiencies in remediation on private property.
It is important to note that the City has no ownership role in the Fibre Connect fibre optic network. The City is not responsible for the construction schedule, the order of installation, or the services that will eventually be provided to residents and businesses. Any changes to the construction schedule will be communicated by Fibre Connect directly.
The City has asked the contractors to provide residents with a notification letter and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding the ongoing work, along with their contact information, so they can address any questions residents might have.
