City Gathering Suggestions for Potential New Names to Replace Grandin

The City of St. Albert invites residents to suggest potential new names for the Grandin community and City infrastructure that includes the name Grandin. The suggestions will inform a recommendation on a new name which Council will be considering at its March 18 meeting. Only Council can change an existing name and replace it with a new name.

In 2024, the City received a request to remove the name Grandin, which met the required criteria outlined in the Municipal Naming Policy.

The City's Administration is following the process outlined in the policy to prepare a recommendation for Council’s consideration regarding the potential name change.

As part of this work, the City is asking residents of St. Albert to suggest new names to potentially replace the name Grandin. Suggestions must align with the criteria outlined in the Municipal Naming Policy.

From February 3 to 21, 2025, residents can provide their recommendations through Cultivate the Conversation

Based on the suggestions from residents, and in alignment with the City’s Municipal Naming Policy, the City’s Administration will recommend a potential new name to replace Grandin, as part of a report to Council.

If Council decides to change the name, the City will provide residents living on Grandin Road, Grandin Lane or Grandin Place with information on the steps they need to take to change their address.

For more information on the name change request process, visit the Municipal Naming page.
