St. Albert Officially Breaks Ground on one of Alberta's Newest and Largest Industrial Business Districts
Lakeview Business District, a new approximately 600-acre development in west St. Albert, is ready for development. St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron, St. Albert City Council, and the Honourable Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction and MLA for St. Albert-Morinville officially broke ground on this light-to-medium industrial hub earlier today.
“Lakeview Business District is a game changer for our city,” says Mayor Cathy Heron. “There is a strong demand for shovel-ready land in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. Today’s groundbreaking signifies our commitment to accelerate the development of this major employment district which will significantly bolster our city’s economic landscape.”
In January 2025, City Council approved a $62.7 million investment to front-end servicing of Lakeview, which includes road improvements and the construction of off-site municipal services. The City has also partnered with the Government of Alberta to twin Ray Gibbon Drive, which shows the collective commitment to sustain economic growth along this important trade corridor. This in turn improves Alberta’s supply chain and will support growth in the region and in Northern Alberta while also expanding interprovincial trade networks.
Construction of the next phase of twinning Ray Gibbon Drive along Lakeview Business District (McKenney Avenue to Giroux Road/Township Road 540A) is set to begin this year, with completion anticipated in 2027.
Engineering plans and designs are already underway for road infrastructure and servicing within Lakeview. The first phase of construction for the new alignment of Range Road 260, which includes underground utilities as well as the storm management systems, is planned for 2026-2028. A second phase of construction involving the improvement of Meadowview Drive will take place in 2028-2030.
Development Acceleration Program Will Spur Investment
To accelerate development in Lakeview, Mayor Cathy Heron recently announced the Development Acceleration Program which will offer a reimbursement-based incentive tailored to encourage early-stage development. The program will offer up to $110,000/acre for land development and construction of industrial and commercial buildings. A total of $8 million will be available, and the program will be ready to receive applications starting in January 2026.
“By providing a targeted financial incentive, we are addressing the unique challenges of initial stage development and creating a competitive advantage for St. Albert,” says Mayor Heron. “We believe this is a pivotal step to realize the full potential of Lakeview Business District.”
